2016 Pantone Color of the Year : Spring Edition

I absolutely love the Pantone Colors for 2016. Serenity and Rose Quartz are both soft and can be easily be incorporated into most wedding colors. I am so ready for Spring and thought I'd share some inspiring ways to use the colors.

Super Hero Party Games

Here are some games from the Super Hero 1st Birthday party we recently did. Since it was a first birthday party, I needed to come up with something to entertain the adults and kids.

Kid Games

HULK SMASH

This game was pretty easy to put together. You need blow up gloves (Dollar Tree), ice cream cones, and a flat opened box (free from Aldi). Each child got a chance to smash the ice cream cone while wearing the gloves. Needless to say, this was a favorite at the party.

Pass the Kryptonite

I made a foil ball then painted it with lime green acrylic paint. We played the game with the same rules as hot potato. We used superhero music and each time the music stopped, one superhero was eliminated.

Adult Games

Name that Superhero

I printed out superhero logos and put them on a poster board. As guests arrived, they got a piece of paper to write the names that they believed went with each logo. Although it was an adult game, we did let the kids play as well. They enjoyed it!

When Did the Super Kid get His Powers?

I created this game after not being able to find another one for the adults. You get to guess when the babies got their super powers. This was a very interactive game that all the adults liked.

DIY Balloon Weights

Happy Monday!

After a much needed weekend, I'm back to give another money saving tip. Its so easy and simple. Balloon weights are an essential at most parties. On the low end, they can cost about a dollar a piece. That's fine until you want to put them in 10 or 20 different places. Don't blow your budget on that. Instead make them yourself.

Items needed:

Shiny wapping paper or tissue paper

Ribbon

Scissors

Decorative marbles or rocks

Step 1: Cut your wrapping paper or tissue paper into squares. You can eyeball your squares or you can measure them to be about 10'' x 10''. I clearly eyeballed mine.

Step 2: Fill your square with decorative marbles or rocks. I used the ones I had sitting in a centerpiece on my kitchen table. The amount needed is dependent on how heavy the filler is. With the decorative marbles I'm using, it took about 15. When I ran out of those I started using rocks. Yes, rocks! It only took 2-3 rocks to make a weight heavy enough.

        

Step 3: Before you lose your marbles : ) , tie a ribbon around the square. Leave extra ribbon when tying so that you will be able to tie balloons to the weight.

Ta Da! All done. You can curl the ribbon or not. Remember, you'll be tying balloons to the ribbon. I made what feels like a zillion of these. They held up really well for the party. The ones made with tissue paper were not as durable, of course. If you plan on using more than a few times, I would suggest making the investment for shiny wrapping paper and decorative marbles.

Little Man Mustache Bash: Nehemiah's 1st Birthday Party

Oh what joy, oh what fun, our little man turned 1!

I had the pleasure of planning a Little Man Mustache Bash for my son, Nehemiah. All though I enjoy planning all the events I do, this one was extra special to me. I couldn't let these moments go unshared.  Here are the highlights of the party. 

My little man arrived to the party asleep.

It wasn't too long before he was up and at 'em.

We decided to have the party at a local recreation center. They set up toys for the kids to play with in the room. 

Food 

Since the party was around lunch time we had MANwiches with chips.



There was also some fruit bow ties made from strawberries and grapes that were served over a fruit salad. The bow tie pasta salad was cute and delicious too.

I love the baby food buffet! Although, I can think of at least one little boy that loved it more. Check out the tutorial on how to put it together.

I made a lemon lime punch to match the theme.

Games

The games were played throughout the party to keep everyone entertained from start to finish.

Name that Stache : Everyone got a chance to guess the famous mustaches.

Pin the Bow Tie on the Little Man : I  printed a poster size picture of my little boy and cut out some bow ties with double sided tape on the back. 

One by one, the kids where blindfolded with a tie and tried to pin the tie onto the pic of Nehemiah. The prize was M&Ms that were shaped to look like a bow tie by putting a rubber band on them.

Tie the Tie: This was a game where 2 teams of two battled to see who could tie a tie on the other person the fastest.  The catch was that the person tying the tie was blindfolded. It was a lot of fun to play and watch.

Decor

I made a sign that let everyone know the rules for a little man.

I took a picture of my son every month in the laundry basket to capture his grow. I used those pictures on ribbons to make add wall decor behind the cake table.

I also spread out pictures and collages of him through the room.

I wrapped some boxes to accent the cupcake stand and the buffet.

The centerpieces were amazing. You would never guess they were made from formula containers. Make sure to view my tutorial on the centerpieces. There is also a tutorial for the balloon weights.

Cake 

The smash cake and little man cupcakes were courtesy of Corbin's Sweethouse in Dallas, TX.  

I love the bow tie cupcake stand I made. It really stood out in the room.

 The #1 cupcake  cake was done by my local Kroger's Bakery.

The smash cake was a little uneventful. He didn't really understand the concept. This face says it all!

Favors

I decided on neck tie bags for the favors. They were filled with an assortment of mustache toys and goodies. I have a blog post that shows you how to make them.

For the adults I had bow tie cookies that were also from Corbin's Sweethouse in Dallas, TX.

All in all, it was a great party! It was a lot of fun to plan. Until the next time...
